Back to Basics: 12 Wardrobe Essentials

Posted on

Trends will always come and go but there are certain pieces that will stay in your wardrobe. Having key pieces in your wardrobe that you can mix in with your trend pieces will ensure you don’t have the “I have nothing to wear” moment again. Simply put, these are the base to the perfect wardrobe. So whether you can looking to start off with a solid wardrobe or freshen it up, here are the pieces you need.

The Little Black Dress
Do you really need an explanation for the LBD? The first step is finding the right LBD to match your body shape and your style. There are countless options out there but if you pick something with a modest length you can take the dress from day to night for the ultimate versatility.

The Plain White Tee

The plain white tee will start your outfit off with a clean slate. It is such a versatile piece that it can be worn every day of the year and can be worn in numerous ways.

Well Fitted Jeans

Find a pair of comfortable and flattering jeans and you will keep them in your wardrobe for years to come. While skinny or straight leg jeans are really versatile, opt for a style that best suits your figure and you can't go wrong.

Turtleneck

Whatever you do, don’t picture The Wiggles. A turtleneck is actually a saviour during the colder months as it keeps you warm and it a chic layering piece. They're basically a two-in-one piece as you don't need a scarf to protect yourself from the nippy weather.

Blazer

Every woman should have at least one blazer in their wardrobe. A perfect substitute when it’s not quite cold enough for a coat, to dress up an outfit or to give your look a bit more of an edge. A good blazer will see you through season to season. We suggest a black or navy blazer for more versatility.

Black Ankle Pants

Even if you don’t work in a corporate environment, a pair of black ankle pants are a great alternative to jeans and are perfect if you want to be a little bit more dressed up.

Wrap Dress

The wrap dress is a universally flattering dress. Best of us, it is versatile; dress it up with some pumps or wear it on the weekend with some crisp white sneakers. You can find the dress in a range of fabrics, patterns, and colours so it all comes down to your style and fit.

Knee Length/Midi Skirt
A longer length skirt can be great for a casual or a work-friendly setting. Wear with a silk blouse for a more dressy look or with a silk cami or t-shirt for brunch.
Button Up Shirt

This might give you horrific flashbacks to the dreaded high school days but this isn’t your school uniform or your work shirt. The button-up is an essential piece that can be dressed down with ripped jeans or worn underneath a boyfriend blazer for a cool casual look. The fabric and cut are key to finding a button up that works for you.

Trench Coat

A trench coat is lighter in weight than your regular coat so it is a great transitional piece. Choose a colour like black, beige or navy and you really can’t go wrong.

Chunky Knit Jumper

A good knit jumper works with everything from a structured work look paired with tailored pants, boyfriend jeans on the weekend or a pleated skirt for a night out. Find one you like, and you will get so much use out of it.

Stripe Long Sleeve

Stripes will always be a wardrobe staple. Whether you opt for a black or navy stripes, or a more colourful stripe, the long sleeve top will add dimension to your outfit and can easily be worn underneath outerwear for layering.

These wardrobe staples are a great base for your wardrobe but don’t be afraid to add trend and eye-catching pieces to your wardrobe each season. These basics will play the supporting role to their pieces, ensuring that you always have something to pair them with.
